Programme: Electrical Engineering
Programme Code: ELEENG
Level ID: ELEENG-N5
Exit Level Outcomes: As per ECSA; Problem solving, Application of Scientific and Engineering knowledge, Engineering Design, Investigation, Engineering methods, skills, tools, including Information Technology, Professional and Technical
Communication, Impact of Engineering Activity
Requirements: N4 Electrical Engineering Certificate
NB. Although the national pass mark is 40% in the college sector, students wishing to articulate or progress into the university sector, will require a minimum pass mark of 50% in all subjects, for credit or exemption purposes
The course is presented in accordance with national standards, complying with QCTO (Quality Council for Trades & Occupation) and DHET (Department of Higher Education & Training) requirements.
This intermediate level introduces Industry 4.0 technology and is presented by means of a weekly knowledge-sharing exercise in the classroom integrated by application of this knowledge in a fully equipped laboratory on hardware & software concepts of a basic PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), together with conventional circuit construction. Exposure to PV (Photo Voltaic) cells & water measuring components facilitate the ability to address the current electricity & water problems. Students construct circuits together with development on the PLC for a final assessment that can be implemented in industrial applications.
The programme is audited and presented under the mentorship of individuals amongst who are industrial practitioners and university academics registered with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa).
